Tweako: Digg for the programmer
10 05 2007I’ll be one of the first to admit that I’m a huge sucker for nice web applications and user driven news sites like Digg, Reddit, and such. I’d even go as far as saying that I’m addicted because I find myself checking them upwards of 50 times a day. Sites like those just cater to my interests more than most news sites and the addition of sites quite frequently makes it even better! If it weren’t for social news networks, I’d be a whole lot less geeky and a whole lot more productive.
So here is one of my favorites that I stumbled upon right after it was released in April. Tweako is a phenomenal user-powered community site that is centered around computers and technology. People can submit websites and articles that can be guides, tutorials, information, etc. Note: the site is currently in Beta mode, but it is still fully functional and provides some great links!
Sure it may sound like your typical Digg clone, but believe me, it’s not. If you’re a programmer, designer, Linux nerd, or power user, then you’ll find links that cater more to you than you’ll find at Digg. That front page changes every couple of minutes, so every visit will be different. Current articles on the front page include Ubuntu Unleashed, Using Python and Applescript Together, and How to add custom commands to the Mac OS X Terminal.
Doing a simple search for Rails provides almost a hundred fantastic resources and tutorials that will amuse me for hours. Instead of hanging out on the Digg or Reddit programming section, I can now get all my links from Tweako’s front page! I’m always an advocate for new web applications (unless they steal the ideas I wanted to implement).
Tweako also has a fantastic section list. Topics include Hacks, Internet, Linux/Unix, Mac/Apple, Programming, and Networking. There are tons of others, but those are some of my favorites. The site also includes some great features such as fantastic RSS Feeds, a 48 hour history section, and tagging. So if you feel like visiting a couple of great sites and want to kick your Digg habit, then check out Tweako!
